Max Stalling : These were shot either at John T. Floore's Country Store or Gruene Hall. Some of the recent ones shot at Floore's were shot in B&W to add effect. It also helped compensate for the poor colors of the lights.

Hayes Carll : Hayes Carll played at John T. Floore's Country Store on 19 November 2010. I unfortunately wasn't able to stay for the whole show, but was able to get some decent enough shots for the time I was there. Again, due to the lighting, I shot some in black and white. Our shooting experience was cut a bit short by some folks who decided to be less than friendly towards one another. I will definitely plan on catching him again in the hopes of getting some more shots of this very interesting artist.

Stoney LaRue : Stoney LaRue played to a soldout crowd at River Road Ice House on 23 July 2011. This was the first time I had seen him, and I was not disappointed. Stoney put on a great show that had the crowd going all night long. Definitely a must see show!

Ray Wylie Hubbard : Ray Wylie Hubbard at Gruene Hall on 15 July 2011. Quite a show as this was the first time I'd seen the man they refer to as the Wylie Lama. He had his son Lucas playing lead guitar. Wow, that young guy can play!! Great show!!!

Emory Quinn : Emory Quinn is a San Antonio based band that is starting to really pick up. I've seen them twice now and have enjoyed them immensely. Nathan Rigney, the lead guitarist, fiddle, and mandolin player, is superb. These guys have fun and the crowd loves them. These shots were taken at River Road Ice House and John T. Floore's Country Store.

Steve Earle : I was finally able to catch a concert of the legendary Steve Earle. Shot these at Gruene Hall on 15 July 2011. The placed was totally packed that night, making getting any shots worth anything extremely difficult. Gruene Hall is not the best place to shoot anyway, but with all the people it was doubly difficult. These are not what I would term outstanding, but simply because they're of Steve Earle I wanted to post them. Along with Steve Earle was his wife Allison Moorer. Got quite a kick out of her as she "invited" some guy that wouldn't shut up to shut up and sit down. That earned her a loud round of applause.

Roger Creager_RRIH : Roger performed at River Road Ice House on 28 May 2011. The place was packed, and Roger was in fine form. Outstanding show as the band was really cooking that night. I again shot in both color and black and white, depending on the situation and lighting.

Kevin Fowler : Shot these up at River Road Ice House on 29 May 2011. Kevin was in fine form that night, and the crowd was having a blast. This was my first time shooting one of his concerts, and hopefully it will not be the last one! I again shot these in both black and white and color, depending mainly on the lighting at the time. For once I actually felt pretty good shooting in color there, so I think I got some good ones of him in color.

Joe Ely : This was a real treat of a concert. Not only did we have the legendary Joe Ely in concert, but we had it at Gruene Hall on the night before Thanksgiving. A large crowd came out to see Joe, and they were not disappointed. Due to the size of the crowd I wasn't really able to get around to get different angles, which is disappointing, but not much could be done with the size of the crowd. I again shot in both color and black and white. Great show by a great musician.

Your Bio

I've been a photographer for over 30 years now having bought my first "real" camera in 1978 when I bought a Canon AE-1. While I still have that camera, I now use Nikon digital SLRs. I am not a professional photographer, but would more appropriately describe myself as an avid amateur. Aside from my love of taking pictures of my family, my main interest lies in the photos you see here. Along with my long-time friend Mark Applegate, we attend local concerts to photograph and document them. The concerts we attend are of Texas and regional country music acts, like the ones documented here. The best of our work is donated to the Center for Texas Music History at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. If able, we also donate the best of our work to the band for their own use as they see fit.

As for the name Sungjin, that is my Korean name given to my father-in-law prior to his death. As a tribute to him and his memory, I decided to name this after the name he gave me.

As an FYI, when I set the site up I misspelled the Anglicized name and spelled it Songjin when it should be Sungjin.
